Mary and RJ & “Kina & Bobby”
Kina & Bobby’s Success Story —
We are so thrilled we learned about the RRP program and were able to join. The difference it has made for both of our dogs, as well as our relationships with our dogs is just amazing. Jenna helped us learn so much! From being able to communicate and understand our dogs' needs, wants and fears, how to better enrich their lives to boosting their confidence so that they can make the choices to handle triggers and live their best lives! We are forever thankful for the wonderful program she has put together for pawrents and for being such a great coach to enable us.
Kina - We have been rebuilding the relationship and trust with Kina that had slipped away over the past year or more. We hadn’t even realized it was for that long until this course. She has more confidence in us, and we certainly have more confidence in how to communicate with her and build that trust as well as how to continue forward in her recovery. She has plenty more to go, but we are thrilled to already see the progress and changes we have.
Bobby - OMG! He is such a different dog. Okay, he is still Bobby, but now he really IS Bobby! Maybe that is a better way to put it? This poor baby came to us so timid and scared. He had major trust issues with ANY human, especially male and children. His two previous foster homes told us he often clung to females of the house, but had more trust with other dogs than humans. Most of the time he would just lay in his bed next to my feet or follow me around the house. Even after a couple of years, he was still timid with my husband and others, though he was showing signs of improvement already (compared to when we got him). Mind you, that was 2 years and the progress was very slow. Now, after this program, he is rarely if ever timid when my husband approaches him and easily lets us know when he wants some attention. He goes to other rooms on his own, often to find or reclaim a toy or bone. He initiates play with us and has even rolled to show his belly for our grandkids to rub when they have come to visit. Before he would always squat to use the restroom… now he hikes his leg up 90% of the time. WHAT?! I have to admit, I have grown closer to him as well. I’m so darn proud of this boy!
I’m not sure I can name “a” biggest change. So many things we have learned and are still learning. We’ve learned how to read them better so we understand their needs and how to help them learn and become more confident. We still have a long way to go, but being able to identify small cues that we never knew or noticed before has been key. We are able to see so much of what we just didn’t know in previous training attempts. It was like before we had a general outline and Jenna has given us the real meat and potatoes that has been crucial.
Another aspect is, that it's not all a win-lose scenario (all or nothing), every inch is important and that can mean small steps, or super short sessions. I’m still having to remind myself, so this training hasn’t just been for the dogs. It’s been for their hoomans too.
The worksheets and logs are great for helping make connections on the various aspects of the program and how to enrich our dogs' lives. By far, we certainly realize the benefit of the logs! We’re not great at it, but work in progress for us is doing it more.
Our big epiphany occurred after a few review coaching calls, and then we went back and did a self review on some old videos we had. What we had learned and the keys in reading both dogs just clicked… so by far the coaching reviews of what we’d been doing gave us the tools to look back and then catch the indicators for the behaviours we were seeing, but missing.
We went through training programs, used all the latest special leashes and nothing worked with Kina. Now we have learned why those never worked and how to do it right.
If you struggle to take your dog on walks, find going outside a challenge or struggle with having guests over, this program is a game changer. If you have tried all sorts of training techniques and still struggle… this is the one you need!
