About the Rover Community
-
Meaghan L. & "Winston" Alberta, CAN
“What I really enjoyed about the coaching calls is listening in on everyone else's progress and hearing their questions as well. Maybe they were asking something I hadn't even thought about but it gave great insight. I love the sense of community feeling like I'm not the only one going through this journey.”
-
Agneta & “Flora” Toronto, CAN
“ALSO, the Facebook group! I really love being part of a community of people going through something so similar and who actually understand.”
-
Madison & “Charlie” Temecula, CA
“Not only is this program amazing because of the training purposes… but the community is incredible! Being able to communicate with other parents of reactive dogs helped provide a sense of support that I did not realize I needed. Everyone is quick to suggest ideas, provide support, or cheer you on. Whatever you need, the recovering rovers are there for you.”
-
Alessandra & “Jaspers” Tulsa, OK
“I’m not the biggest fan of online forums and such, but the RRP Facebook group is a wonderful little place to share successes, be honest about the not-so-great/overwhelming/frustrating bits, get support during the rough and good times, etc. It made me feel less alone. Considering how isolating having a reactive dog can feel/be, that’s huge. Lots of solidarity and compassion.”
About the Learning Curriculum
-
Agneta & “Flora” Toronto, CAN
“I love the format of the RRP. It is perfectly suited for me. Another reason I hesitated to hire someone before was that I didn't want to pay them by the hour to explain things to me and tell me what to do. I loved that the initial learning portion was done by video, on your own time (like an online lecture). This also gave me a chance to re-watch videos. I usually watched each video twice before doing the training, and then recently I went back a third time and noticed things that I had missed before, now that I'd actually been doing the training. This chance to go back and forth really helps retain/understand information better. This is not something you can do without video.”
-
Madison & “Charlie” Temecula, CA
“The online courses were extremely helpful. I love the fact that I can work through the videos at my own pace, pause, and re-watch videos when needed. The stress of trying to absorb all the information at once is not a factor with these videos. It really is suitable for everyone because it works regardless of the way they learn best.
I love the fact that the training was done on the videos which is funny because at first I didn't know if I would love it or be able to get much out of it that way. I re-watched those videos SO many times.”
-
Alessandra & “Jaspers” Tulsa, OK
“I love the videos. I especially love seeing the bits with other dog parents training their dogs. Having a process that I can see is so helpful. I had read about a lot of the techniques we use in the RRP, but seeing them made things make so much more sense. I like the deep dive and learning all the science and “why” behind the process. I felt more knowledgeable and confident with the videos. It was helpful to be able to go back and rewatch videos too. I also love that I could go at my own pace and watch videos in advance to see what we would be working towards. I will forever be that nerdy kid that likes to read ahead and know what’s coming.”
-
Catherine & “Hazel” Hillsboro, OR
“The online learning course helped quite a bit! I watched the videos many times just to make sure I understood what I was doing.”
-
Ashley & “Gracie” Weatherford, TX
“It's hard to remember everything when you're teaching, so being able to refer back helps solidify the training we needed to learn. This was probably my favorite part of the program.”
-
Ada & “Mako” La Mirada, CA
“There are videos there that would not have thought of watching on my own, but after watching them they make a lot of sense. These are the videos where I wouldn’t have gotten to know because I wouldn’t know what to ask in the first place. One of the videos was about the breed.”
About the Coaching Calls
-
Agneta & “Flora” Toronto, CAN
“The calls, to me, are a 100% essential and integral part of the program. Without the coaching calls, the program wouldn't have been that much more different than what I was already doing (watching videos). Sure, there was a lot more content in the program than in most lectures/videos I had watched, but it's the feedback component that was the key to making this work. It's that feedback that I needed in order to build my confidence, clarify my understanding of the video lectures, and fill in gaps that were specific to me and my dog and our circumstances. A couple times I even joined the call when I didn't have my own videos, just to be able to see other people's videos and hear the feedback they got, as well as to ask questions (so many questions...)
All of it really goes together, but if I had to choose then hands down the coaching calls [are the most helpful part of the program]. Like I said, this is an integral part of the program. I don't think I would have signed up just for the videos. The very close second most helpful were the videos, since this is my preferred medium for getting new information. “
-
Madison & “Charlie” Temecula, CA
“The calls were very helpful in providing support and insight on the learning process. They were really effective in two ways. One, they held me accountable to my training with Charlie because I wanted to make sure I could take advantage of asking questions. Two, they provided insight that I did not realize I needed. Oftentimes I would upload a video to ask a question about a certain situation that happened and you would point out a completely different part of the video with even more important information that I missed.”
-
Alessandra & “Jaspers” Tulsa, OK
“The reviews were *so* helpful, seriously. Reviewing the videos on my own has been a good practice, but there’s often a lot that I still miss. Having a professional eye look over the videos and point out things that happened, things I can work on, successes, etc is a game changer. Being able to get video reviews in-between training sessions made it feel like I had tons of training sessions. I love it.”
-
Kendall & “Poppin” Dallas, TX
“They are SOOOOOO helpful! Just reviewing them on my own was valuable, but seeing them through your perspective and getting insight and tips from you was amazingly educational. The videos - I watch over and over again! They are so helpful as reminders. I always pick up new things from them as I progress.”
-
Rachel & “Jack” Marquette, Michigan
“Biggest takeaway or lesson learned - I learned the value of having video documentation and reviewing it with an expert. Some body language is extremely subtle and easy to miss ‘in the moment.’”
-
Tracy D. & “Laney” East Rochester, NY
“Talking through a mission, problem-solving together, even getting to hear how/what other dogs in the program have been doing were all super helpful for me. Having multiple opportunities each week to review progress or ask questions was a huge plus! I think [the training logs] definitely helped to identify trends in behavior and to measure increases in comfy time/overall progress.”
-
Andrea & “Ollie” New York, New York
“Yes, I found these helpful. I needed the guidance on the missions and another set of eyes on the videos to see what was going on. It was also nice to see other people on a similar journey.”
-
Mark and Deborah B. & “Elliott” Chicago, IL
“It was so helpful to have regular check ins, and be able to get expert eyes on recordings of our dog's behavior when he was alone. It was helpful to get insight into what was going on, what was good and what could improve, and to get concrete next steps for the following days.”
-
Ed J. & “Penny” Aventura, FL
“I found this to be the best part about the program. The calls were very informative and I liked the ability to bounce ideas off of each other. The immediate feedback was a much better way of doing this than back-and-forth, long-winded emails.”
-
Luke and Laura P. & “Banjo” Ontario, CAN
“[The coaching calls] are a crash course that really prepare you when you are continuing the recovery journey on your own. Jenna will point out things you never would have noticed on your own, and suggest activities to make sure you are covering all the bases before you push forward before your dog is ready to.”
-
Katie & “Arlo” Columbus, OH
“The coaching calls were very helpful to get live feedback and discuss next steps. This was probably the most valuable part of the program outside of the missions.”
-
Elizabeth & “Charley” Washington DC
“The coaching calls were incredibly helpful! They were worth their weight in gold. They were my favorite part of all of the training.”
About the Workbook & Training Logs
-
Madison & “Charlie” Temecula, CA
“The cheat sheets were SO helpful!! I’d print those out and bring them with us out on the training sessions to refer to. The logs were also helpful in finding what triggered Charlie. The enrichment log was also really helpful at the beginning to see what areas I lacked in but as I got use to our routine I found it to be a little overwhelming because I always got stressed with filling it in each night. However, it was really eye opening to what areas we were lacking in for enrichment.”
-
Kendall & “Poppin” Dallas, TX
“I was so impressed with the program. From the tools that Jenna has created for her students to develop and track their personal progress, to the unbelievable support that she offers throughout the course. She shows her clients the way, keeps them on the right path, and steadies them when they falter.”
-
Mark and Deborah B. & “Elliott” Chicago, IL
“I liked seeing the graphics so much. It helped me to see progress when sometimes I didn't feel progress. I find it helpful to keep track of information to look back on and compare trends, too. One thing that's been so hard with our dog is feeling like there's a lack of pattern in his behavior, and using the logs helped us to begin seeing patterns.”
-
Ashley A. & “Kai” New Market, NH
“I really loved the worksheets and logs. Particularly the treat value log and the Enrichment log. It really helped me focus on ALL different types of enrichment and see just how much overall, I was giving him. And it gave me some great ideas for new enrichment to try with him.”
-
Tracy D. & “Laney” East Rochester, NY
“I think [the training logs] definitely helped to identify trends in behavior and to measure increases in comfy time/overall progress. Just watching the videos was helpful too, but taking time to break them down and really look and analyze what was going on made it easier to help judge when to push/challenge Laney vs. when to back off a bit and give her more time to generalize what we were working on.”
-
Meaghan L. & “Winston” Alberta, CAN
“It's great to have a reference to look back on and be able to re-examine behaviours or look back and see "oh yeah, we really are making progress!" I'll definitely be continuing to use the logs to track Winstons progress.”
-
Luke and Laura P. & “Banjo” Ontario, CAN
“They are essential to the learning experience. How else would you possibly remember what happened? They are challenging, and at first it isn't clear how they will help, but they are a solid record of what happened and are concrete evidence of your progress.”
-
Elizabeth & “Charley” Washington DC
“The logs were incredibly helpful. They forced me to go back and watch the videos and look for clues that I missed the first time around. They were especially helpful in the beginning when I didn't really know what to look for on videos.”
About Working with Jenna
-
Mark and Deborah B. & “Elliott” Chicago, IL
“Jenna knows her specialty so well; she has a deep understanding of anxious behavior in dogs, and has such a clear passion for the science behind compassionate and skilled dog training. She helped us understand the nuances of our dog's body language when he was struggling and not only to get on a road to recovering from his separation anxiety, but to improving his life with us on the whole. During the RRP, we felt confident in her expertise and assessment of our dog's behavior. She's also great at the human side of dog training. She's a great coach and cheerleader who gives honest and encouraging feedback.”
-
Tracy D. & “Laney” East Rochester, NY
“I could not be more grateful to Jenna and the RRP for helping me and my sweet Laney! Working with Jenna in the RRP over the last 12 weeks has been life changing! Even though we know there will be some setbacks as we all adjust to life with a baby, Jenna has given me the tools and confidence to pick up where we left off and continue making progress.
There truly are no words to express how thankful I am to have stumbled across Jenna's page on Instagram!! If you are even considering signing up, DON'T HESITATE! It is easily the best thing you will ever do for yourself and your fur baby!”
-
Meaghan L. & “Winston” Alberta, CAN
“Working with Jenna in the RRP has been a breath of fresh air. Having a trainer that understands that what your dog is going through isn't a 5 minute fix, and isn't because your dog is being a "bad dog" but because it's their mental health.
I also loved that you empowered us to be able to train our dogs. Instead of just showing and leaving it at that, really breaking it down and getting us to think about the next step and guiding rather than telling and that's that.
The way Jenna teaches gives me the confidence to move forward and continue making progress in my training outside of the program.”
-
Emily and Troy M. & “Julep” Louisiana
“Jenna was wonderful to work with! She was incredibly responsive with all emails and review videos. Her ability to read a dog's body language and then in turn teach us how to read our specific dog's body language is so impressive.
The craziest thing is that Jenna never specifically taught us training for when we brought the baby home - she taught us how to handle Julep's anxiety around triggers and we were able to successfully implement the training for every instance we recognized Julep was anxious/triggered.”
-
Katie & “Arlo” Columbus, OH
“Jenna was a pleasure to work with! She is so personable, provided great feedback, is very encouraging, and you can tell she really cares about the clients in her program. She has taught me how to better communicate with my dog, think about his needs, and look at separation anxiety from a different lense.”
-
Elizabeth & “Charley” Washington DC
“Jenna isn't going to do the training for you, and your dog will not be miraculously cured if you don't put in the work. It can be a slow journey and Jenna is there to guide you and provide encouragement every step of the way.
Jenna is an extremely thoughtful coach that will help guide you through a journey that can be long and painful, so it's totally worth it to embark on the journey with a true professional.”
-
Alessandra & “Jaspers” Tulsa, OK
“While Insta-browsing, I came across the Dog Liaison account and started following it. The posts were oozing with good information, nerdy science stuff, and compassion. I felt good about things while reading them. One day, there was a post that ended with “DM me to find out is the RRP is right for you”, and so I did. Jenna and I had a great little back-and-forth about Jaspers, his specific reactivity, what we were already working on, what we would like to be able to do in the future/what our goals were, and what the RRP was all about. (I just went back and looked at the very first messages and they made me smile.) We scheduled a consultation, and the rest is history.
When I first started working with Jenna she said one of her goals is to get her clients to no longer need her, and I love that. Jenna has been nothing but kind, patient, and reliable. I know I can always go to her with whatever questions and concerns, and be met with both expert knowledge and enthusiasm for the work I’m doing. Jenna and the RRP are the real deal. If there is some universal force that intervenes and acts in our lives, I know the universe was looking out for me by leading me to Dog Liaison. I trusted my gut instinct and am so grateful that I did.”
-
Kendall & “Poppin” Dallas, TX
“From the tools that Jenna has created for her students to develop and track their personal progress, to the unbelievable support that she offers throughout the course. She shows her clients the way, keeps them on the right path, and steadies them when they falter.
Thanks to Dog Liaison and the RRP Poppin and I have developed an entirely new relationship. And I know that Jenna will say that Poppin and I did all of the work, but we honestly couldn't have done it without her!”
-
Madison & “Charlie” Temecula, CA
“Lastly RRP is amazing because of the trainer, Jenna! Sure you could get training advice from multiple different dog trainers out there but you won't find someone even close to Jenna. Jenna supports you, cares about you, and is active in you and your dog's recovery journey more than any trainer I’ve ever met.”
-
Moira & “Gaia” Toronto, CAN
“Jenna has really helped me to better understand how my dog communicates with me and has empowered me to act as an advocate for my reactive rover. I love that Jenna educates pet parents on how to help our reactive pups using positive reinforcement! Jenna is supportive and encouraging as we continue on this journey, available by email and DMs to cheer for our successes and bolster us when we’re struggling.
I especially want to note the value of Jenna’s YouTube videos, too! I love that I can revisit these ideas when I am in the right headspace to absorb the information. I appreciate that Jenna speaks to experts and delves deeply into the research, and has more practical videos with activities and training games too.
Jenna has fundamentally changed the way I look at dog training: not as a task with a finish line but as the ongoing building and maintaining of a positive and enriching, mutually beneficial relationship with my dog, for life! Thanks so much, Jenna!”
-
Ada & “Mako” La Mirada, CA
“Working with Jenna has given me the chance to explore more ways to enrich my dog’s life in every aspect, not just with training for separation anxiety. She has taught how to be a better listener to my dog. She also taught me to find that balance where my dog and I can compromise based on our needs and how both of us can cope with our new lifestyle.”
-
Ashley & “Gracie” Weatherford, TX
“Also, [Jenna is] so freaking compassionate and encouraging. When I felt like I was messing up, you reassured me that I was doing things correctly or offered gentle correction. You are very empowering. I appreciate her knowledge and mission to empower pet owners to support and heal their reactive dogs. It can be done and it makes life better for both the dog and pawrent. =)”
-
Melanie S. & “Winnie” Miami, Fl
“Throughout the five months I’ve known Jenna I have honestly felt like she has become a friend, mentor, and huge part of Winnie’s and my life. Whenever I need her she is there for me. You don’t even know how many times I have emailed her in a panic late at night about some new behavior Winnie is displaying that worries me. I have messaged her countless times asking any and every question that comes to mind. I send her videos of Winnie to review and get feedback on. I even find myself thinking how proud she would be when Winnie does something good.
The thing that makes Jenna so special is that she will answer your panicky emails with calm and reassurance. She will spend so much time and effort in her response and be as detailed as humanly possible. She’ll give you real world examples to help you understand the concepts better and see the perspective of your dog. She will answer every single question in a timely manner and end every message asking if you have more questions. She will go over any videos with you and let you know some of the body language cues you may have missed. Jenna will literally become your source for all things dog training.
The thing that sets her apart from the rest is that you will feel her passion and dedication for this job in every single conversation you have with her. Jenna makes it all feel possible, she makes it feel like the time and effort will be worth it. She makes you want to have a positive attitude in order to achieve a positive result. She inspires me every day to believe in myself and in the capabilities of my dog. I promise you, once Jenna becomes a part of you and your dog’s life you will not be able to imagine it any other way. From the bottom of mine and Winnie’s hearts, thank you for everything, we love you!”
-
Grace P. “Beast” & “Bell” Orange County, CA
“I don’t know where to start when it comes to telling people how grateful I am for Jenna, but she has seriously been a blessing in my life. Not only is she the most genuine, real, loving person, but she is so educated on dogs and truly *treating* their behaviors. Every time I talk to her I always feel she is researching and reading more so she can continue to educate herself on the best and most current ways to train dogs and make them happier pups all around.
Jenna has made my girl Bell a whole new dog on leash and when new people come over to my house. We have grown so much with Jenna and I know the training doesn’t stop here. She is my go-to for learning new training skills with both dogs and reinforcing skills we have already learned so that we can continue to build upon them. Thank you- thank you Jenna!!! We can’t wait to continue working with you!”
-
Ren C. & “Huck” Newark, Delaware
“When I adopted Huck, he was a very timid and shy dog with a huge aversion to weird noises and being groomed. Trimming his nails, in particular, was a nightmare for us both, but Jenna helped me teach Huck that it wasn't a scary process at all. She taught me to understand what Huck was telling me with his body language and respect his boundaries. Now, grooming is a much less stressful process for both of us and is one where he can actively take part and decide the pace. Being able to understand him better and work through his fears like Jenna taught me has improved our relationship and prepared us to handle anything that comes our way. Even online she was able to effectively work with us both and continues to check in and support our training journey.”
