Katie and Dustin A. & “Tucker”
Tucker’s Success Story —
We joined the RRP because after having worked through a lot of Tucker’s anxieties on our own, we knew we wanted to do more to help him feel safe in more situations. We had a moment during a camping trip in which a stranger unexpectedly entered our campsite. Tucker moved toward him, barking. It was the first time he had given that type of reaction. He had always been more of a “flight” guy. We wanted to make sure we could help him feel safer in general, so as much as possible, he wouldn’t feel the need to react that way, and around the same time I came across Dog Liaison’s RRP. Thank goodness!
Since the beginning of the RRP we have seen Tucker be able to be closer to his triggers out and about and continue to play and sniff around. Not only is he able to disengage better when cued near a trigger, but we can see him making great choices on his own. Now instead of low, panic scampering away or pulling toward and barking at a trigger, he often moves a bit closer to take a look, sniffs, and them moves on his way. His hypervigilance has decreased in general and although he still has his moments, he’s showing more signs of curiosity and fewer signs of anxiety in many situations. We understand Tucker’s body language better and all 3 of us know what to do and have more options to cope when around triggers.
The RRP has been amazing for keeping me and my husband on the same page with Tucker’s training, and has helped my anxiety, when out with Tuck, a ton. We’re all more relaxed, and definitely have way more fun!!
It just keeps getting better! We are all much more relaxed in general.
Tuck is less anxious = Dog Mom is less anxious = Dog Dad is very happy.
My biggest take away from the RRP is that being able to help Tucker change his feelings about things that scare him is all about going at his pace and always working at a distance where he feels comfortable. It is never about asking him to push through it when something is just too much. This is something that my instincts always pulled toward, but it is powerful to know that the methods used are science based, and to receive that validation and support from true experts. Tuck feeling safe comes first, and I love and appreciate that so much!
My biggest takeaway from the RRP SA Edition is Goal Oriented Goodbyes. Such a game changer. Having this method to organize and plan our training sessions has been huge for me. Tucker's SA is a very emotional thing for me especially after struggling to work through it on my more or less on my own before the RRP. Goal Oriented Goodbyes really help me focus when emotions make my head spin and gives us opportunities for so many little wins along the way to our big goal.
The online learning is great! I love being able to go at my pace and work it into my schedule. The tutorials and activities are clear and helpful and I appreciate being able to rewatch lessons as needed.
The weekly coaching calls are the best! The weekly coaching calls are fun and very helpful. I loved the chance to connect not only with our Coach, but also the other pawrents. It's invaluable in terms of emotional support! The feedback was extremely helpful as far as education and guidance and especially helping me practice my objectivity in analyzing Tuck's behavior. This was one of my biggest challenges since SA Training had become very triggering for me when I was attempting it before the RRP. I'd say the main reason I knew I had to get support in this was for my mental well-being, in order to be able to continue training, just as much as I wanted Tucker to be in a more comfortable state during alone time. I loved hearing from all of the other pawrents and seeing their pups’ progress. It’s been amazing to spend time with others that feel the same about helping their pups with so much love and kindness.
The goals worksheet was especially helpful to pinpoint the observable behaviors we would like to see, rather than get stuck on what we did not want to happen.
The worksheets and logs are extremely helpful! And they are so important!! I loved the tip about highlighting trends/potential trends in a different color. It was fun, gave me a sense of progress, and saved time!
Would you recommend the RRP to your friends or family?
Yes! Do it! Your pup will have a better life in so many ways, and so will you! The RRP is the best! It will bring everything together and fill in what was missing. You will be supported by your coach and a community of pawrents that truly understand what you are working through. Your pup will feel safe and less anxious throughout the process. You will have clarity and direction. You will make progress and you will feel good about how you're training.
I am confident we can handle Tuck's SA and SA Training post-graduation. We also feel so grateful that we can reach out to Jenna and our RRP Community if anything comes up with which we need a little extra support.
Soooo worth every penny and then some! Once you've experienced it, you know it’s priceless!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, experience, and expertise. Most of all, thank you for being there for us! Your support has meant everything. We are so grateful to have found you both, and the Dog Liaison RRP Community!
