Mayzie’s Success Story —
“We joined the RRP last fall after working with other trainers on Mayzie’s anxiety. Mayzie is a 2.5 year old pittie who started to show signs of anxiety/reactivity at about 10 months old. She was nearly impossible to take for a walk due to her pulling, barking and lunging. We haven’t been able to have new people in the house since September 2020. She is also very noise sensitive to outside noises such as cars, trucks and children playing. This was extremely challenging as both my husband and I have been working at home since the start of the pandemic.
We have seen improvement with noise sensitivity and disengaging from triggers. We are now starting to work on outside behaviors with the goal of being able to take a walk! Our progress has been slow but we have such a stronger understanding of how to identify and recognize her triggers and how to break out big goals into manageable plans.
We actually have days with less than 3 barking incidences and the incidences themselves are very short. The barking is more of an alert than a reactive bark.
We still have a lot to work on but feel as though we are clear on the steps we need to follow to continue working toward our goals. Plus we know that we will continue to have support from the RRP community which is worth its weight in gold.
I feel as though I am better able to recognize the behaviors that let me know when Mayzie might be feeling anxious so we can take steps to redirect or mitigate reactions.
I appreciate the approach of this program. Learning foundations positions me to be a better dog mom and build the skills that I will need to help Mayzie live a good life.
Jenna is an excellent coach. She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about this work. It is clear that her most important goal is to help her Rover teams be as successful as possible.
There is no judgement here, only support from Jenna and the rest of the Rover teams.
What would you say to someone who wants to join the RRP but is on the fence at the moment?
This isn’t a training program, it is coaching, and it is important that folks understand the difference. Be prepared to do the “work.” It will be worth it!
